Visual artist ka ba una or musician? Alin ang nauna kung meron man nauna?
Originally, visual artist ako bago nag-music. We just used music to sell our artworks back then. We carved our own instruments. I, specifically, made my own hand drums.
Gaano ka na katagal nagpipinta? Paano ka nagsimula? May pormal ka bang kursong kinuha o sariling aral lang?
Professionally, it's around 6 years na, but I've been in the business (the underground scene) since 2000. I started with oil, mixed media, and watercolor. I'm happy to say now that both my mixed media and watercolor are selling like hotcakes.
I didn't have any formal training. I just remember drawing at the age of 5, and I still have that work dated 1987. I graduated with a biology degree coz my parents wanted me to finish medicine since both my sisters are in that field.
How does music come into your visual art? Is it a big part? Or sobrang seperate ba nila? And vice versa
Music and visual arts are quite similar. By actually playing in front of an audience, you sort of act like a visual art form for them. And if you know how to command a stage and be able to move freely as if you own it, you could also feel that you've become a theater artist as well.
My career became huge because of music. Airwaves travel faster than just visuals alone.
Most recent projects. What are you currently working on?
Most recent projects include my first Art Fair Philippines and Ayala Mall Baywalk exhibitions, malasimbo art thread installation 2020.
Also, I'm now in the process of making studies for my Manila Art 2020 in October, the International Watercolor Society Federation-Taipei exhibit in June, and our two-man show with the president of IWS Philippines at Espacio Manila gallery Festival Mall, Muntinlupa in September. It's gonna be a full working year for me. Thank god and my patrons.
I just want people to remember me as a hardworking artist.
As an artist what would you want your legacy to be? What do you want to be remebered for?
I do not long for fame, but if it came along with whatever I achieve, I will wholeheartedly embrace it.
Magbuo ng dream team of artists to save the world from doom
